AKA American Open Martial art Championships August 31 and September 1 2012
In its third year running, the AKA American Open Martial Arts Championships has become one the country’s most enjoyable and prestigious martial arts events, drawing some of the most talented martial arts athletes from San Diego County, Southern California, and around the country. The event is a community based multi-discipline martial arts international championship tournament, structured to appeal to the novice and proficient alike. It features over 900 NASKA World Tour Black Belt Divisions, the NASKA / AKA Under Belt Divisions, Kung Fu Magazine.com Championship Chinese Divisions, American Open Japanese, Korean, and Kenpo Traditional Empty Hand Forms Divisions, the PUI Specially Challenged Divisions, and both, the NASKA Point Sparring Divisions and the American Open Continuous Sparring Divisions. Additionally, this year the AKA American Open will feature the American Open Grappling, American Open Adult Black Belt Breaking, and the Southern California Martial Arts Championships (SCMAC) Divisions, thereby incorporating into the event the traditional Japanese Karate Kobudo Tournament.
The spectator-friendly AKA American Open encourages a public audience, and will culminate once again in a spectacular Saturday night show. The Night Show at the AKA American Open Martial Arts Championships presented by McMillin Realty is a superb presentation that features the American Open Overall Grand Championship competition and performances by some of the most respected martial arts demonstration groups in the world (see the Main page for more information). TournamentNewsOnline.com will live-stream broadcast the night show internationally, and the entire event will receive full coverage by Kung Fu Magazine, TournamentNewsOnline.com, and SportMartialArts.com.
The event is back at the beautiful Town and Country Resort and Convention Center on Friday, August 31 & Saturday, September 1 of Labor Day weekend. Located in Mission Valley at the heart of San Diego and the center of our community’s transportation systems, the resort is minutes from San Diego International Airport, the “Downtown Gas Lamp District,” San Diego Harbor, beautiful beaches, and lots of shopping, entertainment and much more. To help you make the AKA American Open your end of the summer vacation, the hotel’s concierge has arranged guest discounts to local attractions that include the San Diego Zoo, Sea World, Lego Land, and more (please check the Venue page for more information.

The AKA American Open teams up with Hyper Martial Arts this year for two events. The Hyper Pro Camp is Thursday, August 30 and Friday, August 31. This camp will take your martial arts training and style to the next level. The Hyper Games competition is Friday, August 31 and Saturday, September 1. The Hyper Games is a martial arts kick challenge and tricking competition with the final battle on stage at Saturday’s “Night Show” at the AKA American Open presented by McMillin Realty (please check the Main page and Registration page for more information).
The San Diego Padres and the AKA American Open Martial Arts Championships have partnered again for two events. The first celebrates the Padres’ Third Annual “Martial Arts Day” at Petco Park on Saturday, August 18. This is an amazing event featuring demo performances from local San Diego area schools in the “Park at the Park,” and a pre-game on-the-field demonstration by several of the 2011 AKA American Open Martial Arts Champions. The second, on Tuesday, September 28, will showcase selected champions from last year’s competition by opening the evening game with an on-the-field demonstration. Be sure to check out the Padres “Martial Arts Day” advertisement on the Main page for special ticket discounts for these two events.
Everyone associated with the event, from the organizers, judges, and score-keepers to the staff and the many volunteers, are working hard to again insure a professionally run and well judged tournament as part of an overall pleasant and exciting event for everyone: competitors, their families, judges, score-keepers, volunteers and spectators alike.
