New York Jets 2010 NFL Draft Picks
New York Jets
Needs Analysis: The Jets insisted on locking up OLB Jason Taylor before the draft, which I understand, but they could have maybe waited for Adalius Thomas to get cut loose. Monitor that situation to see if the Jets also show interest in Thomas. Kyle Wilson was a bargain at No. 29 as a nickel corner and return man. Keep in mind, the Jets could play close to 55 percent of their defensive plays in a nickel or dime look. Vladimir Ducasse is talented, but raw, and has big shoes to fill if he replaces released left guard Alan Faneca. The pick of fourth-rounder Joe McKnight made Leon Washington expendable, but time will tell if McKnight can replace Washington's production. The Jets could still use a defensive end or safety.
Pick Player Pos Ht Wt College Grade* Fan Pick* Watch
Round 1, Pick 29 (29) Kyle Wilson CB 5'10" 194 Boise State 8.4 21
Video
Pick Analysis: The Jets' loaded defense gets some more star power with addition of Kyle Wilson. The Boise State standout was viewed as the top corner on some boards, and his skills make him an exceptional nickel corner. Additionally, he possesses the requisite grit and toughness that is demanded by the Jets' coaching staff. For a team that is loaded on defense, the landing of Wilson is a case of the rich getting richer.
Round 2, Pick 29 (61) Vlad Ducasse OT 6'4" 332 Massachusetts 7.6 --
Video
Pick Analysis: The Jets pick up a developmental prospect in Vladimir Ducasse. The Massachusetts star played offensive tackle as a collegian, but could move inside to guard for the Jets. With the team currently loaded along the line, Ducasse will have the opportunity to sit on the sideline and learn the craft before playing a bigger role in a few years.
Round 4, Pick 14 (112) (From Panthers) Joe McKnight RB 5'11" 198 Southern Cal 7.2 --
Video
Pick Analysis: The Jets add a talented playmaker in Joe McKnight. The scat back from Southern California has exceptional open-field ability, and his skills give the Jets another weapon to use in their running back rotation. He could be valuable insurance in the event that Leon Washington's recovery takes longer than expected.
Round 5, Pick 8 (139) (From Seahawks) John Conner RB 5'11" 246 Kentucky 3.7 --
Video
Pick Analysis: The Jets get a young fullback to develop behind Tony Richardson. As a head-banger with good strength and power, Connor has the skills to be an ideal lead blocker in the Jets' power running game. Though he doesn't catch the ball well out of the backfield, he has skills that the Jets covet in their lead backs.
