Short history of the UFC

Fri May 25, 2012 2:57 pm by Anonymous

What is MMA and the UFC?

Originating from the full contact sport of Vale tudo in Brazil, the UFC was created in the United States in 1993 with minimal rules, and was promoted as a competition to determine the most effective marital art for unarmed combat situations.

It wasn't long before the …

Green Bay Packers

Needs Analysis: No team listens to its draft board like the Packers. In fact, they don't listen to anything else. They expect all their picks to make the team and play for a long time. If I were a draft-eligible player, I would love to get the call from GM Ted Thompson. Bryan Bulaga fell right to them, and he addresses one of their biggest needs. Thompson did not hesitate to jump up into the third round for safety Morgan Burnett, who had 14 interceptions in college and will challenge starter Atari Bigby. Many people thought they would select an outside linebacker in the second round, but the top five candidates were already gone, so they took a five-technique defensive tackle, Mike Neal.

Pick Player Pos Ht Wt College Grade* Fan Pick* Watch
Round 1, Pick 23 (23) Bryan Bulaga OT 6'5" 314 Iowa 8.5 6
Video
Pick Analysis: The Packers add a quality offensive tackle prospect with the selection of Bryan Bulaga. Although the team has a pair of veterans in Chad Clifton and Mark Tauscher in place to start in 2010, Bulaga gives the team much-needed depth and an eventual successor to develop for the future.
Round 2, Pick 24 (56) Mike Neal DT 6'3" 294 Purdue 6.4 --
Pick Analysis: The Packers add a talented big man in Mike Neal. As a stout defensive lineman with outstanding strength and power, Neal gives the Packers another body to rotate in at end. Though his motor occasionally tails off due to his conditioning, he flashes outstanding talent when fresh, and could develop into a key contributor in their scheme.
Round 3, Pick 7 (71) (From Browns through Eagles) Morgan Burnett SS 6'1" 209 Georgia Tech 7.6 --
Pick Analysis: The Packers nab a ball hawk in Morgan Burnett. As an instinctive defender with outstanding range, Burnett has the ability to get over the top on deep throws. With Atari Bigby underperforming at safety, Burnett could be a surprising rookie starter in Week 1.
Round 5, Pick 23 (154) Andrew Quarless TE 6'4" 254 Penn State 4.8 --
Video
Pick Analysis: The Packers add Andrew Quarless to their deep tight end corps. The Penn State product has intriguing skills, and could blossom into a solid player in Green Bay's system. If he can manage his off-field issues, he may turn out to be a good value pick for the Packers at this point.
Round 5, Pick 38 (169) (Compensatory selection) Marshall Newhouse OT 6'4" 319 TCU 2.0 --
Pick Analysis: The Packers continue to add developmental offensive tackles. With starters Chad Clifton and Mark Tauscher aging, Green Bay clearly wants to groom some young players as eventual replacements. Newhouse has outstanding measurables, and possesses impressive athleticism given his size, but needs improvement in recognizing blitzes and finishing his blocks.
Round 6, Pick 24 (193) James Starks RB 6'2" 218 Buffalo 2.0 --
Video
Pick Analysis: The talented tailback from Buffalo got injured and missed his entire senior season. Some teams thought he had a chance with a powerful senior season to move into the second or third round. With Green Bay, he'll have an opportunity to be core special teams player and have a chance to compete at running back as well.
Round 7, Pick 23 (230) C.J. Wilson DE 6'3" 290 East Carolina 3.6 --
Video
Pick Analysis: A solid prospect, with good size and strength, Wilson will likely play the 5-technique in the Packers' 3-4 defensive scheme. He has a chance to contribute in a few years as a powerful end with pass rushing potential.
