Needs Analysis: This was one of the best drafts in recent history for Oakland. The Raiders got a very solid leader type in the first round, LB Rolando McClain, and patiently waited for DT Lamarr Houston in the second round after trading down. Taking 6-foot-8 OT Jared Veldheer in the third round gave them a plan to take raw but talented OT Bruce Campbell in the fourth. Jacoby Ford is a classic Al Davis speed guy. Trading for Jason Campbell was the best move of all, and now this team has a chance.

Pick Analysis: The selection of Rolando McClain came as a surprise to some, but it's a sensible pick based on the Raiders' struggles against the run. McClain is a stout "Mike" linebacker with exceptional instincts. He gives Oakland a more physical presence inside. With the Raiders not satisfied with Kirk Morrison's play, the decision to add McClain was a reflection of a desire to improve the middle of the defense.
Round 2, Pick 12 (44) (From Jaguars through Patriots ) Lamarr Houston DT 6'3" 305 Texas 7.8 --

Pick Analysis: The Raiders have been roundly criticized for their recent drafts, but the selection of Lamarr Houston is an outstanding pick for the franchise. The hulking interior defender is an exceptional athlete with outstanding strength and power. He is capable of stacking blockers at the point of attack, but also possesses the quickness to play as an up-field penetrator. Given the Raiders' woes on defense, the addition of Houston will undoubtedly shore up some of the problems inside.
Round 3, Pick 5 (69) Jared Veldheer OT 6'8" 312 Hillsdale 6.9 --

Pick Analysis: The Raiders go with small-school standout Jared Veldheer to compete for time at offensive tackle. Though he dominated inferior competition in college, his impressive performance in pre-draft workouts showcased his immense potential as a pro.
Round 4, Pick 8 (106) Bruce Campbell OT 6'6" 314 Maryland 7.8 23

Pick Analysis: The Raiders pick up the most athletic offensive tackle from the NFL Scouting Combine with their selection of Bruce Campbell. Though many expected the team to nab him in the first round, the Raiders patiently waited to acquire him with the 106th pick. While he is raw in several aspects of his game, Campbell's outstanding athleticism gives him a chance to develop into a solid player in time.
Round 4, Pick 10 (108) (From Jaguars ) Jacoby Ford WR 5'9" 186 Clemson 4.7 --

Pick Analysis: The Raiders continue their tradition of selecting outstanding track athletes with the addition of Jacoby Ford. The former track All-America has exceptional speed and quickness, and gives the team a versatile receiver/returner. With his explosiveness, Ford could develop into an impact player for the Silver and Black.
Round 5, Pick 7 (138) Walter McFadden DB 6'0" 175 Auburn -- --
Pick Analysis: The Raiders nab a good value with the selection of Walter McFadden. The Auburn standout has underrated cover skills, and gives the team a ball hawk at the position. Though he isn't regarded as a tough or physical tackler, he shows enough skills in the passing game to merit the selection at this point.
Round 6, Pick 21 (190) (From Patriots) Travis Goethel LB 6'2" 240 Arizona State 2.0 --

Pick Analysis: The Raiders continue to add depth to the linebacker corps after taking Rolando McClain in the first round. Goethel drew interest from several teams for his impressive size, speed and athleticism, and can become an immediate contributor to Oakland's special teams unit.
Round 7, Pick 8 (215) Jeremy Ware DB 5'10" 188 Michigan State -- --
Pick Analysis: The Raiders once again show the heavy premium they place on speed by taking the exceptionally fast Ware. At his pro day, Ware clocked a 4.37-second 40-yard dash, and also demonstrated impressive burst. He will have to compete to earn playing time as a backup in the Raiders' crowded defensive backfield.
Round 7, Pick 44 (251) (Compensatory selection) Stevie Brown DB 6'0" 210 Michigan -- --
Pick Analysis: Brown can contribute immediately as a special teams player, and might be able to find his way into the Raiders' secondary a few years from now if he develops. He is better against the run, than in coverage.
