Philadelphia Eagles 2010 NFL Draft Picks
Philadelphia Eagles
Needs Analysis: Andy Reid used 13 picks in the draft to load up on young players and the over-riding theme was pass rush. Between Brandon Graham, Daniel Te'o-Nesheim, Ricky Sapp and Jamar Chaney, they secured prospects with 80.5 total college sacks. The first five picks and nine of the 13 were for Sean McDermott's defense. Keep an eye on Chaney. He is unlikely to crack the starting lineup after the trade for Ernie Sims, but has the talent to eventually start.
Pick Player Pos Ht Wt College Grade* Fan Pick* Watch
Round 1, Pick 13 (13) (From 49ers through Broncos) Brandon Graham DE 6'1" 268 Michigan 8.5 20
Video
Pick Analysis: The Eagles appeared to solve some of their pass rush issues with a series of trades in the offseason, but the team targeted Graham due to his disruptive skills as an edge player. He possesses exceptional first-step quickness, and his relentless motor often leads to negative plays for the defense. With the Eagles seeking to bring pressure from all angles, Graham gives Sean McDermott another weapon in his arsenal.
Round 2, Pick 5 (37) (From Redskins) Nathaniel Allen FS 6'0" 207 South Florida 7.7 --
Video
Pick Analysis: After playing without a ball-hawking safety last season, the Eagles address the need by plucking Nate Allen. The former South Florida star is a rangy defender with outstanding instincts and awareness. Though he isn't regarded as a headhunter in the back end, Allen's ball skills and playmaking ability are so superior that the Eagles were comfortable adding him despite his finesse style. He should start immediately at free safety.
Round 3, Pick 22 (86) (From Packers) Daniel Te'o-Nesheim DE 6'3" 263 Washington 2.0 --
Video
Pick Analysis: The Eagles bolster their depth at defensive end with the selection of Daniel Te'o-Nesheim. As a high-motor edge player with good instincts, Te'o Nesheim shows a knack for making disruptive plays in the backfield. Although still inconsistent in several aspects of his game, Te'o-Nesheim's potential makes him worthy of the gamble at this point.
Round 4, Pick 7 (105) (From Browns) Trevard Lindley CB 5'11" 183 Kentucky 5.4 --
Video
Pick Analysis: The Eagles add a competitive cover man with the selection of Trevard Lindley. The former Kentucky standout was regarded as one of the top corners in the country heading into his senior season, but injuries and inconsistent play prevented him from playing to his potential. If he is able to regain the form he displayed as an underclassman, he could emerge as a key contributor for the Eagles as a rookie.
Round 4, Pick 23 (121) Keenan Clayton LB 6'1" 229 Oklahoma 2.0 --
Video
Pick Analysis: The Eagles add another undersized, but swift linebacker with the selection of Keenan Clayton. The former Sooners star is a good "run-and-chase" player, who fits in well in the Eagles' scheme. Philadelphia's defense struggled last season due to questionable play at the linebacker position, and Clayton becomes its latest attempt to address the need.
Round 4, Pick 24 (122) (From Packers) Mike Kafka QB 6'3" 225 Northwestern 4.6 --
Video
Pick Analysis: The Eagles pick up Mike Kafka to develop as a backup behind Michael Vick and Kevin Kolb. As an athletic thrower with good overall skills, Kafka is a solid fit in the Eagles' west-coast offense. Though he is a few years away from being a legitimate candidate to play as a starter, he is a developmental passer that should flourish in the team's scheme.
Round 4, Pick 27 (125) (From Cowboys) Clay Harbor TE 6'3" 252 Missouri State 7.0 --
Video
Pick Analysis: The Eagles pick up a swift pass catcher in Clay Harbor. As one of the top performers at the NFL Scouting Combine, Harbor possesses the kind of athleticism that makes him an intriguing option in the Eagles' diverse passing game.
Round 5, Pick 3 (134) (From Buccaneers through Browns) Ricky Sapp DE 6'4" 252 Clemson 7.5 --
Video
Pick Analysis: The Eagles surprisingly land an early-round talent in Ricky Sapp. The Clemson star has outstanding pass rush skills, and gives the team an underrated rusher to add to their rotation.
Round 5, Pick 28 (159) (From Chargers) Riley Cooper WR 6'3" 222 Florida 6.8 --
Video
Round 6, Pick 31 (200) (From Colts) Charles Scott RB 5'11" 238 LSU 5.2 --
Video
Round 7, Pick 13 (220) (From Broncos through Lions) Jamar Chaney LB 6'1" 242 Mississippi State 4.4 --
Video
Pick Analysis: After selecting Keenan Clayton in Round 4, the Eagles take another stab at solidifying their linebacker corps with Chaney. Given his impressive athleticism, Chaney figures to compete for a roster spot at a position where the Eagles struggled last season.
Round 7, Pick 36 (243) (Compensatory selection) Jeff Owens DT 6'1" 304 Georgia 2.2 --
Video
Pick Analysis: Jeff Owens is a big defensive tackle, who will compete for playing time with Broderick Bunkley, Trevor Laws and Mike Patterson.
Round 7, Pick 37 (244) (Compensatory selection) Kurt Coleman SS 5'10" 192 Ohio State 5.3 --
Video
Pick Analysis: Kurt Coleman played at a high level in a top-10 program at Ohio State. He's an undersized safety that tackles well and needs to make a big impression on special teams.
