St. Louis Rams 2010 NFL Draft Picks
St. Louis Rams
Needs Analysis: If you believe you are looking at a franchise QB, you take him and that's exactly what the Rams did by drafting Sam Bradford first overall. At least eight of the 11 draft picks should make the team. OT Rodger Saffold, taken in the second round, was a fast riser up draft boards in recent weeks and should be a Week 1 starter at guard with an eye on a tackle spot next year. The Rams still need a third-down running back who would help take the burden off Steven Jackson.

Round 1, Pick 1 (1) Sam Bradford QB 6'4" 236 Oklahoma 8.7 1
Video
Pick Analysis: The Rams tab Sam Bradford to be their new franchise quarterback. Though Bradford missed most of the 2009 season nursing a shoulder injury, his strong pre-draft workouts, intangibles and game tape made him the right choice in St. Louis. While the Rams don't have many weapons around him, Bradford gives the team an accurate thrower with the skills to develop into an elite quarterback as the team builds around him.
Round 2, Pick 1 (33) Rodger Saffold OT 6'4" 316 Indiana 8.1 --
Video
Pick Analysis: The Rams apparently ignore multiple trade offers to select Rodger Saffold. The former Indiana star gives the team a versatile player capable of logging starts at tackle or guard. He may be in line to replace Alex Barron at right tackle. While many speculated that St. Louis needed to trade down to acquire more picks, the opportunity to nab a starter at the top of the second round was too enticing to pass up.
Round 3, Pick 1 (65) Jerome Murphy CB 6'0" 196 South Florida 7.7 --
Video
Pick Analysis: The Rams continue to add depth with the selection of Jerome Murphy. The South Florida standout has good cover skills, and is one of the most aggressive players at his position. Though he is a little undisciplined at times, he has tremendous potential and could develop into a solid starter in time.
Round 4, Pick 1 (99) Mardy Gilyard WR 6'0" 187 Cincinnati 7.0 --
Video
Pick Analysis: The Rams get Sam Bradford a dynamic weapon in the passing game with selection of Mardy Gilyard. Additionally, he gives the Rams an explosive returner in the kicking game, which will be a huge asset to their offense based on his ability to routinely set them up in good field position.
Round 5, Pick 1 (132) Michael Hoomanawanui TE 6'4" 264 Illinois 4.3 --
Pick Analysis: The Rams add a talented blocking tight end in Michael Hoomanawanui. He flashes the ability to seal the edge on outside runs, and gives the Rams a solid No. 2 tight end to use in multiple tight end packages. Given the versatility of the Rams' west-coast offense, the addition of Hoomanawanui is another piece of the team's offensive puzzle.
Round 5, Pick 18 (149) (From Falcons) Hall Davis DE 6'4" 271 Louisiana-Lafayette 5.4 --
Pick Analysis: The Rams nab a defensive end with good athleticism and upside with the selection of Hall Davis. The former basketball player has intriguing physical tools, and could develop into a legitimate pass rusher in time. He is an interesting prospect for the Rams to groom for a bigger role in the future.
Round 6, Pick 1 (170) Fendi Onobun TE 6'6" 252 Arizona -- --
Pick Analysis: A little while ago, the Rams took blocking TE Michael Hoomanawanui from Illinois, and now they grab the vertical tight end, Fendi Onobun. He played four years of college basketball at Arizona, followed by a redshirt year to play football at Houston. He's raw, but an athletic specimen and should be an attractive target in a couple of years for Sam Bradford.
Round 6, Pick 20 (189) (From Falcons) Eugene Sims DE 6'6" 235 West Texas AM -- --
Round 7, Pick 4 (211) (From Redskins) Marquis Johnson DB 5'11" 192 Alabama -- --
Pick Analysis: The Rams add to their depth in the secondary with the selection of Marquis Johnson. The Alabama product will compete for playing time as sub-defender/special teams player. If he can open eyes with a strong performance during training camp, he could emerge as a valuable backup for the Rams as a rookie.
Round 7, Pick 19 (226) (From Falcons) George Selvie DE 6'3" 252 South Florida 4.5 --
Video
Pick Analysis: Selvie had a huge sophomore season followed by injuries and the arrival of Giants first-round prospect Jason Pierre-Paul this season. His stock fell, but he's a tough and competitive kid, who can get after the quarterback.
Round 7, Pick 47 (254) (Compensatory selection) Josh Hull LB 6'3" 237 Penn State 2.9 --
Video
Pick Analysis: Rams coach Steve Spagnolo drafted offense early, but with five of his last six picks he returned to his roots -- defense. Hull is a technician and can start out as a special teams contributor as he builds his strength.
