Dallas Cowboys 2010 NFL Draft Picks
Dallas Cowboys
Needs Analysis: Jerry Jones didn't listen to his draft board the year Randy Moss came out, but he did this year and moved up for Dez Bryant. The Cowboys don't overreact in the draft like they used to, but they failed to draft a tackle, and as a result, re-signing Flozell Adams seems like a good idea. Zane Beadles would have been ideal in the second round, but he went 11 picks before Dallas selected. They did wisely move up to grab LB Sean Lee in the second round. He can play either inside spot and will eventually replace Keith Brooking. A kicker and a safety are still needs to be addressed.
Pick Player Pos Ht Wt College Grade* Fan Pick* Watch
Round 1, Pick 24 (24) (From Eagles through Broncos and Patriots) Dez Bryant WR 6'2" 225 Oklahoma State 8.5 10
Video
Pick Analysis: The Cowboys halt Dez Bryant's free fall by nabbing him with the 24th selection. Though Bryant has been roundly labeled as a potential character risk, his exceptional talent is undeniable and he gives the Cowboys an all-star caliber pass catcher. With Roy Williams under performing, Bryant could become a key contributor early in his rookie season.
Round 2, Pick 23 (55) (From Eagles ) Sean Lee LB 6'2" 236 Penn State 8.1 --
Video
Pick Analysis: The Cowboys grab an instinctive linebacker with outstanding ability. The Penn State star quickly diagnoses plays, and has a knack for slipping blocks on the way to the ball. In addition, Lee gives the team a versatile linebacker with the athleticism to man multiple roles in their defense.
Round 4, Pick 28 (126) (From Chargers through Dolphins) Akwasi Owusu-Ansah CB 6'0" 207 Indiana (PA) 7.2 --
Video
Pick Analysis: The Cowboys pick up a small-school standout with the addition of Akwasi Owusu-Ansah. The athletic playmaker from Indiana (PA) has outstanding ball skills, and is a dynamic returner in the kicking game. With the Cowboys looking to add quality depth in the secondary, the pick of Owusu-Ansah is a solid addition.
Round 6, Pick 10 (179) (From Dolphins) Sam Young OT 6'8" 316 Notre Dame 4.7 --
Video
Pick Analysis: The Cowboys grab an offensive tackle that has the potential to be a quality right tackle. Sam Young tested well in workouts, but he was inconsistent throughout his career, and fails to play to his athleticism. However, his upside makes him worthy of the selection at this point.
Round 6, Pick 27 (196) Jamar Wall CB 5'10" 204 Texas Tech 3.7 --
Pick Analysis: Wall provides the Cowboys with an athletic cover man to provide some special teams help, and can work his way into a backup role as a rookie. Wall has solid ball skills and is adept at reading opposing quarterbacks, but lacks top-end straight-line speed.
Round 7, Pick 27 (234) Sean Lissemore DT 6'4" 298 William & Mary -- --
Pick Analysis: Slightly undersized, Lissemore has outstanding speed for a defensive tackle. He also has above average quickness, and will have a chance to compete for a backup spot in Dallas.
